The Importance of Proper BIAB Removal
Proper removal is just as important as the application itself. Taking the time to remove BIAB correctly through the soak off method helps protect the natural nail and ensures your client’s nails stay healthy underneath.
When BIAB is removed the right way, there’s no reason for the natural nails to feel weak or damaged. The soak off method gently breaks down the product without over filing or forcing it off. This prevents the kind of thinning or trauma that can sometimes happen with acrylics or harsh removal techniques. This careful approach keeps the nails strong, smooth, and ready for their next application.
Mastering a gentle soak off technique not only preserves the integrity of your client’s nails but also builds trust. Clients will notice the difference when their nails feel strong and healthy, even after months of wear.

Step by Step Overview: BIAB Removals
Below is a quick written guide to accompany the video demonstration. This is the exact process I follow for safely removing BIAB. Use this as a reference to stay consistent and gentle during removals, ensuring the natural nail remains healthy and ready for your next application. 1. File Down the Bulk: Use a coarse carbide bit to carefully remove most of the BIAB bulk.
Pro Tip: You don’t need to go all the way down, just thin the product until only a light layer remains. This helps your acetone penetrate faster and prevents over soaking.
2.Soak with Acetone: Using the pre made foil wraps with cotton pads, soak in acetone and place on each nail. Leave them on for around 10–15 minutes, depending on the BIAB brand and thickness.
3. Gently Remove Softened Product: Unwrap one nail at a time and use a cuticle pusher to gently push off the softened BIAB.
Pro Tip: If a small amount of product remains, you can lightly refine it using your e-file on a very low speed, just be gentle and avoid applying pressure to the natural nail. If it resists, rewrap and soak for a few more minutes, never scrape or force it.
4. Lightly Buff and Refine: Once the BIAB is removed, use your e-file with a fine sanding band to smooth the natural nail surface.
Wipe with alcohol or nail cleanser to remove residue.
5. Shape and Tidy (optional): At this stage, you can shape the client’s natural nails and trim or tidy the cuticles to give a clean, finished look, or to prepare the nails for a fresh BIAB or Gel X application.
6. Finish with Hydration: Apply cuticle oil and a light hand lotion to rehydrate the nails and skin.
Pro Tip: Encourage your client to continue applying cuticle oil daily between appointments.
